    Emergency Veterinarian

    Join our fast-paced 24/7/365 emergency service with direct mentorship from board-certified criticalists and easy access to our on-staff and on-call specialist team. Certified VECCS Level 1 facility (one of only two in Canada) and VetCOT Level II Trauma Center means access to advanced diagnostic and theapeutic equipment and specialty-trained nursing support in our custom-built, 26,000 ft2 facility.

    RVT / VTS roles

    Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT)

    Work in our specialty medicine and ER/Critical care VECCS Level I / VetCOT Level II Trauma Centre as an ICU/ER, Anesthesia or Specialty Medicine Technologist. Our hospital is a fast-paced environment, where we value strong teamwork, cross-disciplinary collaboration and mentorship.

    You will have genuine autonomy to grow your skills, including certification as a Veterinary Technology Specialist (VTS) and opportunities to advance to supervising our RVT teams.

    Veterinary Technologists - Careers at Boundary Bay
    Develop and use skills like:
    • Blood typing and blood transfusion management
    • Arterial lines, jugular catheters, central lines
    • Anesthetizing patients for surgery
    • Trauma triage and emergency stabilization
    • Critical patient monitoring on mechanical ventilator
    • Urinary catheters, NG and PEG tubes
    • High-quality radiograph, ultrasound, and CT positioning

    New graduates

    Veterinary Technologist Internship (VTI) Program

     A structured, paid 12-month program for newly-graduated Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) that provides first-hand, real-world clinical experience.

    You’ll get one-to-one supervision and mentorship from experienced RVTs and Veterinary Technologist Specialists (VTSs), rotate through every major department, and build the skills and confidence needed to work in a fast-paced specialty hospital.

    How our program works

    Our internship program is designed to help newly graduated RVTs transition from their education program to the real world by placing them into cases that are at their level of learning and where they can grow their skill sets in a supportive environment. Cases are broken down into manageable learning components and interns advance to the next level of complexity only when they are ready and confident in their ability to take on more responsibility with less supervision.

    Rotations include

    • Anesthesia (surgery, IM, neurology, dentistry)
    • Oncology & Cardiology
    • Emergency Triage
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
    • Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
    • Diagnostic Imaging

    Skills you'll develop

    Knowledge and hands-on experience at a pace that fosters success, including:

    • Basic and advanced nursing care
    • Anesthesia and analgesia
    • Diagnostic imaging techniques
    • Pain assessment and management
    • Time management and critical thinking
    • Behavioural skills (e.g., pain management)
    • Experiential learning working as part of a team with our board-certified specialists and ER doctors.

    Structured learning through:

    • Direct supervision and one-to-one mentorship
    • Monthly goals/check-ins
    • In-house Continuing Education (CE)
    • Pain assessment and management
    • Journal Club

    Eligibility

    • Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technology program (current-year graduates welcome)
    • VTNE eligible or VTNE passed
    • BCVTA member (or other provincial association)
