Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital (BBVSH) is honoured to be named the 2025 Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) Practice of the Year. This national award recognizes one veterinary practice each year that exemplifies the highest ideals of veterinary professionalism — including outstanding patient and client care, community involvement, team-based service, and a commitment to advancing the profession. We are the only VECCS Level 1 facility in Canada to receive this award.
The award will be formally presented at the CVMA’s annual gala on June 25, 2025.
BBVSH has served the Metro Vancouver and British Columbia veterinary community for over 15 years. From its beginnings in 2009 with just four staff, the hospital has grown to over 180 team members and now operates out of a custom-built, advanced facility in Surrey, B.C. As an independent, family-owned practice, BBVSH remains grounded in a collaborative model of care, guided by a shared mission: to support pets, their families, and the referring veterinary community through teamwork and service.
The CVMA award highlights many aspects of BBVSH’s work, including:
- Patient- and Client-Centred Care: As one of only two VECCS Level 1 facilities in Canada and a VetCOT Level II Trauma Centre, BBVSH provides 24/7 emergency and specialty care through a fully integrated team approach.
- Commitment to Education: BBVSH delivers free, RACE-approved continuing education (CE) events for veterinary professionals throughout B.C., with over 800 participants engaging in the past five years. These efforts reflect a hospital-wide dedication to lifelong learning and knowledge-sharing.
- Innovation in Veterinary Services: From advanced imaging and minimally invasive surgery to its in-house Blood Bank program, BBVSH continues to adopt and apply veterinary medical advancements in a multidisciplinary environment that prioritizes seamless communication and quality of care.
- Community Involvement: BBVSH supports numerous rescue and service organizations, including HERO DAWGS, TinyKittens, Ned’s Wish Foundation and others. These partnerships provide discounted care for therapy animals, special-needs rescues, and retired service dogs, reflecting the hospital’s belief in giving back through meaningful veterinary service.
The CVMA Practice of the Year Award is a celebration of these collective efforts — and of the people behind them. This honour belongs to every member of the BBVSH team and to the wider network of veterinary professionals, pet owners, and organizations who collaborate with us in the shared goal of improving animal health and well-being.
We are grateful to the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association for this recognition, and we look forward to celebrating this milestone together in June.
