myBalto Boundary Bay Pet Care Fund
Helping pets get care when families in our community are experiencing financial hardship.
Every day, we’re reminded of the joy pets bring to their families.
However, sometimes families face challenges that make it hard to provide the care their pets need.
That’s why we’ve partnered with the myBalto Foundation to support a charitable Pet Care Fund that helps pets in our community access urgent treatment when finances are tight.
This fund is powered by community donations and managed through the myBalto Foundation – an independent, charitable organization dedicated to reducing the financial barriers to veterinary care.
What is the myBalto Boundary Bay Pet Care fund?
- A charitable fund operated by the myBalto Foundation, supported by donations from pet owners and animal lovers like you.
- A way to help families in our community find a way to pay for care when it is a treatable condition, and with a good prognosis.
All donations go to the myBalto Boundary Bay Pet Care Fund.
What it is not:
- It is not a discount program or general payment plan.
- It is not guaranteed funding for any treatment – each request must meet established criteria.
When a family needs help funding their pet's care:
- Our team works with the family to:
- Review pet insurance (if any),
- Explore support from friends or family,
- Discuss third-party financing options.
- If those avenues are not enough, and the case meets the medical and financial criteria for the myBalto Foundation Pet Care Fund, a request can be made to the fund.
- If approved, the fund may help pay for part of the pet’s treatment, helping ensure pets in our community receive the medically appropriate care they need.
The goal is to bridge the gap — not to cover everything in every case, but to try to help make a difference.
How are we raising funds for the myBalto Boundary Bay Pet Care fund?
Right now, the fund is new, and we are in the fundraising stage. Here are a few ways we are currently fundraising:
- Donate at checkout – When you pay for your visit at BBVSH, our Client Service Representatives may ask: “Would you like to support the myBalto Boundary Bay Pet Care Fund?” You may choose to donate any amount.
- Online donations – We have created a dedicated online donation page where you can make a one-time or recurring donation.
Please note:
1. Donations to the myBalto site are currently processed in U.S. dollars (USD). We are among some of the first veterinary hospitals in Canada to implement the myBalto Foundation fund, and that means we are working closely with the myBalto team (a charitable organization and a small but mighty group of people dedicated to helping pets) to help adapt their donation portal for Canadian use. For now, donations to the site are processed in U.S. dollars. Eventually, myBalto will adapt the portal and their backend processes to better reflect CAD donations and save fees.
Until that time, for Canadian donors, the donation amount calculated at “checkout” is automatically converted to US dollars (USD) by the donor’s financial institution at the exchange rate in effect at the time of processing. (Foreign exchange fees charged by the donor’s financial institution may also apply.)
- For example, at the time of the donation, if $1.00 CAD equals $0.73 USD, a $1.00 donation to the myBalto site by a Canadian donor would appear as approximately $1.36 (plus applicable fees) on the donor’s bank or credit card statement.
2. myBalto donations are tax deductible. Donors will receive a tax receipt by email from the myBalto Foundation in the CAD donation amount after their donation is processed. If you find you have received a receipt that does not reflect your donation, please contact us at info@bbvsh.com. Thank you.
