Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital launches full-time cardiology service

Full-time, board-certified cardiology now available for veterinarians, dog breeders, pet care professionals and pet owners in BC and Washington

LANGLEY, BC – Primary care veterinarians, pet owners and dog breeders in the Vancouver Lower Mainland, throughout BC and northern Washington now have access to board-certified veterinary cardiology without having to drive 3 hours to Seattle.

Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital (BBVSH), a 24-hour specialty, emergency and critical care hospital in Langley, BC, has launched a full-time veterinary cardiology service, lead by board-certified veterinary cardiologist, Dr. Mark Harmon, DVM, DACVIM. Dr. Harmon comes from a busy private practice in Seattle and has a special interest in cardiomyopathies and interventional (minimally invasive, such as catheter-based or fluoroscopic-guided) therapies for congenital diseases and bradyarrhythmias. Dr. Shari Reheb, BSc, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology), a veterinary cardiologist and assistant professor at the Ontario Veterinary College, also works at BBVSH as a locum cardiologist. Dr. Raheb enjoys all aspects of canine and feline cardiology and has a special interest in canine dilated cardiomyopathy – the topic of her research – as well as minimally invasive interventional procedures.

BBVSH’s cardiology department is available to primary care veterinarians and their clients for:

  • Referrals of emergent cardiac cases in conjunction with BBVSH’s critical care team
  • Referrals of stable cases needing cardio work-up
  • Sire, dam and puppy evaluations 2 days per month for dog breeders
  • Echocardiograms
  • 12-lead ECG analysis
  • Radiograph analysis
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • 24-48 hour Holter monitoring and analysis
  • Fluoroscopic-guided Pacemaker placement, programming and troubleshooting
  • Intravascular PDA occlusion
  • Balloon valvuloplasty
  • Medication recommendations
  • Patient follow-ups

For pet owners interested in veterinary cardiology services, Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital encourages that they obtain a referral from their primary care veterinarian whenever possible to ensure the proper transfer of medical information.
