Dr. Geoffrey Hutchinson is a staff surgeon and co-owner of Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital.
A native of Southern Alberta, Dr. Hutchinson’s 5 years of specialty training led through New York, Missouri, and Illinois. Board-certified in 2006, he started surgery departments in Tucson, AZ and Yonkers, NY before returning to Western Canada in 2009 to open Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital.
Dr. Hutchinson’s special interests include joint disorders and treatment, arthroscopy, fracture repair, complex wound management, and oncologic (cancer) and reconstructive surgery. He has introduced several novel treatments to his practice including Proximal Abducting ULnar Osteotomy (PAUL), Patella Groove Replacement (PGR), fracture repair using the ALPS titanium locking plate system, cupless hip joint resurfacing, and 6th generation Kyon Zurich Cementless total hip replacement. Dr. Hutchison has been an invited lecturer and course instructor for TTA cranial cruciate repair, PAUL elbow dysplasia procedure, PGR patella luxation repair procedure, ALPS fracture repair system, and AO/ASIF maxillofacial trauma laboratories.
Dr. Hutchinson’s philosophy is that surgery holds the potential for an extremely positive effect on disease but should always be used judiciously and with as little interruption of normal tissues as possible. Surgery should only be chosen if the outcome is expected to be better than with non-surgical treatments.
Dr. Hutchinson’s interests include boating, skiing, travel, fly-fishing, and antique auto repair including that of his 1947 Chevrolet coupe and vintage Volkswagen Westfalia Bus. That said, most of his free time is delightfully dedicated to his three daughters, and to his Labrador Retrievers, Elvis and Charlie.
