Article: Pacemaker Indications and Therapy

ACVIM (Cardiology), originally appeared in the Spring 2021 issue of West Coast Veterinarian, (pages 30-34) the quarterly magazine of the CVMA-Society of BC Veterinarians Chapter. In the article, Dr. Mark Harmon describes his diagnosis and treatment of a one-year-old canine (Labrador retriever) who was experiencing an acute onset of lethargy and syncope. Auscultation revealed a bradyarrhythmia and a new heart murmur and an ECG evaluation indicated the presence of atrial standstill. Dr. Harmon went on to surgically implant a pacemaker into the dog.
