Who We Are
Founded in 2009, Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital is a Canadian, independent, family-owned, veterinary specialty, emergency and critical care hospital in Surrey, BC. We are a VECCS Certified Level 1 facility (1 of only 2 in all of Canada) and a VetCOT Level II Trauma Centre. We serve all of BC, including the metro Vancouver area and are centrally located just off Hwy #1 at the SFPR, junction 53.
In an emergency and specialty hospital, every moment matters and seconds count. Our team of highly-trained ER doctors, board-certified criticalists and board-certified specialists, registered veterinary technologists, veterinary assistants and front line staff possess a wealth of education and clinical experience to provide advanced, collaborative veterinary care through a multidisciplinary team approach.
Our 26,000 square foot facility is equipped with in-house, hospital-grade diagnostic equipment (including MRI and CT), which allows our team to provide accurate and timely assessments for your pets.
Our goal? To get your pets back spending precious time with their families – after all, it’s these moments that matter most.
Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital is honoured to be the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association’s 2025 Practice of the Year. We are the only VECCS Level I facility in Canada to receive this award.

What We Do...
We offer specialized veterinary care and 24/7 emergency and critical care services to provide peace-of-mind to pet owners and to support primary care veterinarians. We complement the care of primary care veterinarians and partner with them to provide a full spectrum of medicine care.
Our board-certified specialists offer services in emergency and critical care, surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, and animal rehabilitation.
If your pet has an emergency, we’re here 24/7/365 to help; walk-ins are welcome, no referral is necessary. As a VECCS Level 1 certified hospital, we are capable of handling even the most critical, life-threatening emergencies and trauma, with specialists on call to handle any medical or surgical issue your pet may be experiencing.
Please see our FAQs page for answers to common questions about appointments and our board-certified specialists and specialty services.

… And What We Don't Do
We do not offer the wellness care, vaccines, or routine medical, dental or surgical procedures that primary care (family) veterinarians normally perform. We also do not provide routine care to reptiles, birds, rabbits, rodents, mustelids, etc.
We provide care when pets have an emergency or critical condition, require specialty diagnostics such as CT or MRI, require the expertise of a board-certified veterinary specialist, or require specialty treatments such as mechanical ventilation. We work closely with our referring family veterinary partners to collaborate on your pet’s specialty care.

A Message About Pricing and Value
Specialty and emergency veterinary medicine tends to be more expensive than your family vet. This is because we provide our patients with specialized care, which means we have hospital-grade equipment, and expert, board-certified specialists and specially-trained, experienced nursing staff who can handle even the most critical, complex traumas and life-threatening emergencies, and any medical or surgical issue.
Our commitment shows in ongoing education and certifications, hands-on training, and a culture rooted in a profound love for animals. We invest in the latest technologies, rigorous protocols, and a collaborative, interdisciplinary team to provide families with real reassurance when they need it most, and we take the time to listen and explain options in plain terms so you can make informed decisions that meet the needs of your pet and your family.
These unique aspects of our hospital give us the ability to help our patients with an end goal of better outcomes for our patients, with fewer chance of complications.
